A plumber is someone who installs and repairs pipes within a household or any other type of building. The kind of work that they do requires them to work with pipes. These pipes often have sewage, water, waste water as well as gas in them. All of the different pipes with varied substances are referred to as plumbing.
An apprentice is the name given to a training plumber. This is what they will have to do before they can qualify as a plumber. These people will be taught by the professionals before they can venture out on their own. The Latin word, plumbum is where the term is derived. This word means lead and it is because many years ago, joints and pipes were made from lead. People who operated these were called lead workers and pipe layers. Lead is a dangerous metal and due to health related concerns the use of these in pipes was discontinued. People who do this have to find a solution to problems related to clogging in the pipes as well as diagnosing what a problem is.
Breaks and old pipes are also things that can be fixed by plumbers. They also repair leaking faucets and toilets which have been blocked. Plumbers also come into people's homes to check on old pipes which need to be replaced. It is possible to do this yourself however, some of these things need a specialist.
This type of work is often extremely complicated and will need a professional to do it. It is not advisable to do it yourself especially if you don't know how. Things could also go very wrong, such as rotting in the pipes.
