By Dorsey T. Emanus

Do you have the knack for taking interesting and creative pictures? Are you searching for ways to improve your photographic abilities? You have found the right article if that is what you want. All of this tips in this article will help you improve your photography skills.

Play around with shutter speed. Consider using a slow speed, even as low as 1/30, rather than relying on the fastest shutter speed possible. Did you see that guy on the bike? The end result will be a sharp cyclist with a background that has some horizontal streaking to express his speed.

Think of your viewfinder as being split into thirds, with two horizontal and two vertical lines. Position your subject where these lines intersect, rather than in the center of your photo, and you instantly create an interesting photo.

When you are making the decision of which of your photographs to display or show, make sure that you choose your best ones. Resist the urge to show multiple angles of the same setting or showing too many images at a time. Your audience does not get as much out of each picture, and can become quickly bored from seeing the same photo subject matter over and over. Keep what you show other people fresh and exciting by showing many different types of photos.

Even if you think you can take a picture without a flash, think twice. Without a flash in the sunlight, the sun may actually cause your picture to have facial shadows. There is a setting on some cameras that creates a flash that fills. This will get deep into the folds of the face.

Use a cropping program to make your pictures better. Perhaps you have a perfect picture that contains one minor flaw. There are other times that you capture a great shot just to find that it is not lined up correctly and that it is off center a bit. These issues are easily remedied by clever cropping later.

It is great to share something like photography with children. Get your kids behind the lens of a basic camera, whether digital or film, and you may spark a lifelong hobby. Photography is an activity that a lot of people enjoy, and it can be used as a great way to get together and have fun.

One thing that can make photographs unusable is red eye. Avoid red eye by not using your camera's flash. If flash is necessary due to low-light conditions, make sure your subject looks directly at the camera. Many cameras now have a feature to eliminate red eye built into them to eliminate the problem altogether.

Avoid cameras that use lithium batteries if you plan to travel. Airports have now banned any loose batteries in luggage because they could potentially become a heat source, and cause fire. If the batteries are installed in your camera, however, you may bring them on board an airplane.

Taking pictures of natural settings should be done carefully. Be appreciative of the beauty of nature and do not litter, smoke or otherwise sully it. If you stumble upon a pristine location for your photos, take special care to leave it as you found it so the next curious photographer can find it in the same condition.

If you're going to shell out the money it takes to get a nice SLR camera, make sure you take time to learn everything you can do with it. If you want to promote your photography from snapshots to art form, then you need to learn about aperture, composition, exposure, ISO, lighting and shutter speed.

When dealing with photos, you generally must decide whether you should expose the shadows or the headlights of the subject. Or, you can use photoshop or some other program to blend two photos together.

Now, take your camera, get out there, and try these tricks! Next thing you know, your pictures will be much better.
